Ryan Garcia and Terence Crawford are no longer keeping their disagreement strictly about boxing. The two fighters traded a vicious round of insults on social media Friday, turning months of criticism over Crawford’s career, Garcia’s place in the sport, and the upcoming Conor Benn fight into one of boxing’s messiest public feuds.
The Garcia-Crawford feud reignited after Crawford responded to talk of potentially coming out of retirement to fight Garcia. Crawford posted on X, “Mf really think I would come back and fight a coke head yall stupid as s**t.” Crawford followed the insult by questioning why people continued bringing up a possible matchup and made it clear he planned to keep speaking his mind.
Garcia was not about to let that one slide. In the X exchange, Garcia directly rejected Crawford’s characterization and responded with an attack of his own, writing, “You might be the actual crackhead,” before accusing Crawford of lying about him. Garcia also called Crawford a “cornball and a liar” and continued unloading with several personal insults.
Neither fighter presented evidence supporting the drug-related insults used in the exchange, and Garcia explicitly denied Crawford’s characterization. The posts should therefore be understood as allegations and insults exchanged during an escalating personal dispute, not verified claims about either boxer.
The Garcia-Crawford feud has been building for months. In July, Garcia told Uncrowned that he believed Crawford was biased against him and questioned the level of younger opposition Crawford faced during his career. Garcia argued that Crawford had not fought enough young, hungry elite fighters and suggested there were opponents still available when Crawford decided to walk away.
That criticism strikes directly at a career that ended with Crawford sitting at the top of the sport. According to The Ring, Crawford retired in December 2025 with a 42 and 0 professional record and 31 knockouts after defeating Canelo Alvarez by unanimous decision in September. The Ring reported that the victory made Crawford the only male boxer in the four-belt era to become undisputed champion in three weight classes. He also won world titles across five divisions.
Crawford has repeatedly indicated that he does not believe Garcia gives him a reason to reverse that decision. In April, Boxing News reported that Crawford dismissed a possible Garcia matchup by saying the two were on “two different levels.” That position makes the Garcia-Crawford feud especially unusual. One man is retired and insisting he has nothing left to prove, while the other continues challenging both his résumé and his relevance.
There is another layer making the timing even hotter. Garcia is preparing for his first defense of the WBC welterweight championship against Conor Benn on September 12 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, according to the World Boxing Council. The WBC says Garcia enters the fight with a 25 and 2 professional record and 20 knockouts after winning the championship from Mario Barrios earlier this year.
Crawford has also become connected to the Benn storyline. Boxing News reported that Crawford has spent time around Benn during preparations for the Garcia fight, something that has added another source of tension between Crawford and Garcia. Garcia has publicly questioned why Crawford would help Benn while continuing to criticize him.
That makes the Garcia-Crawford feud useful fuel for a fight that technically has nothing to do with Crawford. Garcia has a championship defense directly in front of him, yet one of the loudest conversations surrounding his name now involves a retired undefeated fighter who is not scheduled to compete.
Crawford may not be finished adding to the drama either. Before his most inflammatory post Friday, he wrote that he would “see y’all in Vegas next week.” The statement confirms Crawford was publicly talking about being in Las Vegas during the same period as Garcia’s fight, though it does not establish that the two have arranged any face-to-face confrontation.
For Garcia, the priority remains Benn and the WBC belt. For Crawford, there is still no confirmed comeback. But the Garcia-Crawford feud has reached the point where every interview, social media post, and possible Las Vegas encounter carries more weight than ordinary trash talk.
Whether it ever produces an actual fight is another question. Right now, Crawford says he is staying retired, Garcia has Benn standing in his way, and both men appear perfectly willing to keep swinging at each other without putting on gloves.
