Six of R. Kelly’s survivors have won a $10.5 million lawsuit against the disgraced singer and his former manager after a threat led to the cancellation of the 2018 screening of ‘Surviving R. Kelly.’
According to TMZ, the women accused R. Kelly in the documentary, but he and his former manager, Donnell Russell, allegedly worked to silence them.
Despite the series airing in January 2019, threats were reportedly directed at the women and the show’s creators before its release.
A threat linked to Kelly’s team resulted in the shutdown of a December 2018 screening in New York. The judgment dictates that the six women receive varying amounts, ranging from $1.1 million to $2.25 million each.
Recently, it was revealed that a New York district judge mandated using Kelly’s royalties to settle his restitution dues. Universal Music Group reportedly holds over $560,000 in royalties, while Kelly still owes $506,950.26 in restitution.
