Police say a 12 year old boy jumped from a moving pickup truck to escape a suspected kidnapper in South Florida on Wednesday.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the boy told detectives he had gotten off his school bus and was walking home in Boynton Beach when a man in a white pickup truck pulled over and offered him a ride. The man, identified as 26 year old Timothy, allegedly told the boy that he gives rides to kids and that he would not do anything strange. The boy said he accepted because the man seemed friendly.
Once inside, the boy said the driver’s behavior changed. When he tried to open the door, the driver allegedly sped up, and the boy jumped out of the moving truck.
Witnesses who saw the boy land on the pavement stopped to help him. Two other drivers followed the truck onto Interstate 95 and, when it exited, used their vehicles to block it in until police arrived. According to the affidavit, Timothy resisted officers with violence before he was taken into custody.
The boy was treated for scrapes on his forehead, arms and hands. Police reported that Timothy told officers he picked up the boy because he believed he was a teenager who could help him get drugs.
He was arrested on charges of kidnapping a child under 13, resisting an officer with violence and child neglect, according to the affidavit. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Baller Alert did not have a response from him at the time of publication.
