Dunkin Donuts (Dunkin pressroom)

Approximately 2 million baked goods, including some doughnuts and coffee rolls sold at Dunkin’, were voluntarily recalled last month as a precautionary measure, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and FGF Brands.

The recall, which was completed in early January, was issued by manufacturer FGF Brands for products made before December 13, 2024, and officially implemented on January 7, 2025. However, the FDA did not release a press statement at the time. The recalled items included a variety of doughnuts, éclairs, French crullers, and coffee rolls.

FGF Brands emphasized that the recall was not due to product contamination but rather non-product-related findings at one of its U.S. doughnut facilities. The company confirmed that no food or food-contact surfaces tested positive for listeria and that all products currently on the market are completely safe to eat.

Vice President of Supply Chain and Recall Coordinator Simona Ionita shared the following information with Baller Alert:

“At FGF, food safety is our top priority. We want to clarify recent media coverage regarding FGF’s voluntary recall of donuts to ensure customers have not been misled or confused:

  • The voluntary recall was completed over a month ago (early January), and does not implicate anything that is currently, or was recently on the market.
  • All donuts are completely safe to eat.
  • The voluntary recall was a precautionary measure based on non product related findings at one of our donut facilities in the US.
  • No donuts or food contact surfaces ever tested positive for listeria.
  • The voluntary recall applied only to donut products in the U.S.”

Listeria is the third-leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the U.S., according to the CDC. While most people exposed to the bacteria do not get sick, it poses a serious risk to pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. However, FGF Brands reiterated that no recalled products tested positive for listeria and that the recall was conducted out of an abundance of caution.

Dunkin’ directed inquiries to FGF Brands’ statement but did not provide additional comments
