Two suspects have been charged in connection with the death of 3 year old Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney, the little girl who was reported missing from a birthday party in Birmingham, Alabama.
Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr announced Thursday that Patrick, 39, and Derick, 29, were each charged with capital murder of a victim under 14, according to Fox News. Both were being held without bail. They have been charged but not convicted, and they are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Cupcake disappeared on October 12 after playing with other children outside a birthday party at the housing community where her family lived. An Amber Alert was issued across multiple states, and early reports said a man and a woman in a dark colored SUV may have been involved.
As Baller Alert reported earlier this week, her remains were found Tuesday in a trash bin after a days long search. Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith said the location was not far from the apartment complex where she was last seen.
At a news conference, Smith reminded parents to stay on high alert, saying, “It only takes a split second.”
Smith also said there was no reported connection between the two suspects and Kamille’s family. Police had not yet announced a cause or time of death.
