San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald was arrested early Sunday morning, August 31, 2014, at his home in San Jose on suspicion of felony domestic violence, according to ABC7 and other local reports. He was booked into the Santa Clara County jail and later released on $25,000 bail.

ABC7 reported that McDonald’s fiancée is reportedly pregnant. The alleged victim has not been publicly identified. The case was headed to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for review, and no charges had been announced at the time of the reports. McDonald has not been convicted of anything and is presumed innocent. No statement from McDonald was included in the early coverage.

49ers GM Baalke said the team was aware of the reports, takes matters like this seriously and would hold further comment while it gathers the facts.

The arrest comes just days after the NFL announced a tougher personal conduct policy that calls for a six game suspension for a first domestic violence offense. How the league responds, if at all, is likely to depend on what the district attorney decides.

We will keep you posted as more details become available.
