Reggie Wayne’s white Bentley was taken from an Indianapolis hotel by a valet who drove off with it on Saturday night, police say, and the joyride ended with the valet under arrest.
When I was younger, I used to joke that one day I’d dress in all black, pose as a valet and drive off with somebody’s keys before anyone noticed. I was young. I never thought valets were out here actually doing it.
According to Indianapolis police, a hotel security guard saw someone matching the valet’s description leave with the Indianapolis Colts receiver’s 2007 Bentley around 9:45 p.m.
Around 2 a.m., officers found the Bentley stopped in the middle of the street. Police say the 21 year old valet behind the wheel had “glassy eyes and slurred speech.”
When officers asked about the car, the police report says, he told them he was Wayne’s “cousin by marriage.”
That didn’t hold up. He was booked on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, not wearing a seat belt and not carrying the car’s registration.
Nobody at the hotel even knew the Bentley was gone until Reggie Wayne showed up Sunday morning to pick it up. That’s when someone connected the 2 a.m. arrest to the missing car.
Police gave the Bentley back to Wayne. No word yet on whether he’ll be handing over his keys at that hotel again.
