New York rapper and businessman 50 Cent calls the Recording Academy “out of touch” after the release of this year’s list of Grammy nominations.
It seems like a slew of musicians have taken issue with this year’s Grammy nods list. One of those celebs is Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who recently called the Academy “out of touch.”
He specifically commented on the nominations for Best Rap Album in a now-deleted post. In the post, he wrote: “Best Rap Album. They out of touch this shit ain’t it, get the fuck outta here. 50cent #bransoncognac #lecheminduroi.” Fif has long been a fan and advocate of the late Pop Smoke, who may have been hoping to see added to this 2021 list for that category. Fif executive produced Pop Smoke’s debut album ‘Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon.’
However, Pop was nominated for Best Rap Performance for ‘Dior.’ NME reports that the nominees for Best Rap Album include D Smoke for ‘Black Habits,’ Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist’s album ‘Alfredo,’ ‘A Written Testimony’ by Jay Electronica, Nas‘ ‘King’s Disease’ and Royce Da 5’9″‘s ‘The Allegory,’ the article reports.
When Fif spoke to Spotify’s RapCaviar, he said he didn’t expect Pop’s album to receive a nomination unless it was because of death. “If it’s recognized it will only be because he’s gone,” he said. “The content is similar to what I would do. They didn’t recognize mine. They gave me Grammys when I was with Em, when I’m on records with Eminem. Other than that, they’re afraid to give him Grammys because they think it’s teaching the audience to want to be like Pop and to be like him is to be part of gang culture. Who you see get Grammys that is making drill music? You mean to tell me ain’t none of those songs worthy of it?”
