A year after Starz pulled the plug on “BMF,” 50 Cent is pointing the finger at the show’s own leading man. The executive producer is publicly backing Da’Vinchi’s belief that the series could still be running if someone other than Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr. had played Big Meech, adding another layer to the debate surrounding the show’s abrupt ending.

The latest round of BMF cancellation talk started after Da’Vinchi appeared on Cam Newton’s “Funky Friday” podcast on October 2. Newton asked the actor whether he believed BMF would still be on television if another performer had been cast as Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory. Da’Vinchi answered, “100%, 1,000%.” The actor, who portrayed Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, went on to suggest that managing Lil Meech became increasingly difficult for 50 Cent, although he also acknowledged the unusual pressure his costar faced while portraying his famous father.50 then jumped into the conversation himself. In an Instagram repost of the viral Da’Vinchi clip, the G Unit boss offered his own explanation for why another season never happened.
“No lies detected Meme was throwing up at w*apons test because he was high. Spent all his money pretending to be his dad off camera, and kept getting in trouble; I’m bailing him out of jail to get him on set to [expletive], and snitching on his friends- yeah, what next season”.
Those are 50 Cent’s allegations, and they should not be mistaken for Starz’s official explanation for the BMF cancellation. His claims about Lil Meech’s drug use, finances, alleged cooperation against friends, and the circumstances surrounding production have not been independently substantiated.
What is confirmed is that “BMF” ended after four seasons. Starz canceled the crime drama in October 2025 after its fourth season concluded that August. The series debuted in 2021 and dramatized the rise of brothers Big Meech and Southwest T from Detroit into the Black Mafia Family organization. Lil Meech portrayed his real-life father, while Da’Vinchi played Terry.
There was also a business problem surrounding the “BMF” cancellation before Da’Vinchi or 50 placed responsibility on Lil Meech. During Starz’s August 2025 earnings call, Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch said Season 4 remained a large show but did not deliver the subscriber growth the company expected. Hirsch also said there was no single factor he could identify as the cause of the softer performance. A fifth season had been under consideration before Starz ultimately canceled the series. Earlier reporting on the cancellation also indicated that 50’s deteriorating relationship with the Flenory family created tension around production but was not identified as the reason Starz ended the show.
Still, 50’s latest comments are not the first time he has accused Lil Meech of having a drug problem during “BMF.” In February 2025, 50 claimed he had sent the actor to rehab and alleged that Lil Meech became sick during a weapons test because he was impaired. 50 also alleged that nitrous oxide cartridges were discovered in the actor’s vehicle. He returned to the subject months later by posting an image of Lil Meech apparently asleep in a wheelchair while using Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab” as the soundtrack.
Lil Meech eventually addressed the rehab allegation, although he did not give a direct denial. When TMZ asked him about 50’s claims in May 2025, he responded, “Where I’m from, everybody needs rehab.”
The jail portion of 50’s newest caption also comes with important context. TMZ reported that a 2022 Florida case involving an allegedly stolen luxury watch was ultimately dropped after the merchandise was returned. Later that year, Lil Meech was arrested after a firearm was discovered in luggage at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport. Prosecutors later declined to pursue that case after evidence showed the gun and bag belonged to his bodyguard.
Da’Vinchi and 50 Cent are now presenting Lil Meech’s alleged off-camera conduct and alleged drug issues as a major factor in why “BMF” did not continue. Lil Meech has not yet responded to their comments regarding the show’s cancellation.
