Sean “Diddy” Combs’ recent head injury has sparked conflicting reports, with one outlet blaming a prison bunk bed and another claiming the music mogul was actually injured during a fight with a notorious Jamaican drug lord.

The 56-year-old rapper was transported from New Jersey’s Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix for emergency medical treatment early Saturday, October 10. However, questions surrounding how he sustained the injury have only intensified as two major entertainment outlets present drastically different explanations. On Tuesday, October 13, Page Six reported that Combs injured himself after accidentally striking his head against the upper bunk bed inside his prison cell. According to the outlet, a source confirmed that the Bad Boy Records founder had hit his head but was recovering well.
However, TMZ published a conflicting report Wednesday, October 14, claiming the injury was actually the result of a physical confrontation with convicted Jamaican drug kingpin Christopher “Dudus” Coke.
According to multiple sources inside Fort Dix who spoke with TMZ, the two inmates allegedly fought on Friday, October 9, leaving Combs with the more serious injuries. Sources claim the altercation was severe enough that prison officials arranged for him to receive emergency medical treatment outside the facility.
Neither account has been independently confirmed, and federal prison officials have not publicly provided a definitive explanation for the injury.
The conflicting reports come just days after TMZ initially revealed that an ambulance transported Combs from Fort Dix around 1 a.m. Saturday.
Although the medical situation reportedly required outside attention, sources said the injury was not life-threatening. Combs was reportedly conscious and speaking when he returned to the correctional facility before sunrise.
At the time, the circumstances surrounding his injury were unknown, making the latest allegations about a prison fight particularly significant.
According to TMZ, the alleged confrontation with Coke stemmed from growing resentment among inmates over reports detailing Diddy’s supposedly privileged lifestyle behind bars.
The outlet claims a recent NBC News investigation exposed allegations that Combs had enjoyed unauthorized luxuries, including alcohol, access to cellphones, massages, and special meals prepared by fellow prisoners.
Following that coverage, prison officials reportedly conducted at least two searches throughout the facility, confiscating prohibited items from multiple inmates.
Sources alleged that Coke was among the prisoners whose cellphones were seized.
The searches reportedly angered several inmates who blamed Combs for drawing unwanted attention to conditions inside the prison. What began as frustration over losing unauthorized privileges allegedly escalated into a confrontation between Diddy and Coke.
Although Combs is arguably the most famous person incarcerated at Fort Dix, TMZ’s sources reportedly described Coke as the prison’s more influential figure.
Coke’s reputation extends far beyond the correctional facility.
The Jamaican national previously led the notorious Shower Posse, an international criminal organization with operations connected to Jamaica and the United States.
For years, Coke controlled activities centered in Kingston’s Tivoli Gardens neighborhood, where authorities accused him of overseeing a network involved in drug trafficking, firearms distribution, and violent intimidation.
His attempted arrest in 2010 triggered widespread unrest in Jamaica, with a massive security operation resulting in dozens of deaths.
After his eventual arrest and extradition to the United States, Coke pleaded guilty in August 2011 to racketeering conspiracy and conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering.
He was sentenced to 23 years in federal prison in June 2012.
Now, the convicted crime boss has reportedly become part of another high-profile controversy involving Diddy’s incarceration.
TMZ further alleges that both men were ordered to spend two weeks in the Special Housing Unit, commonly referred to as solitary confinement, as punishment for the confrontation.
However, Combs was reportedly already assigned to the unit following the investigation into his alleged preferential treatment.
Sources claim the confrontation occurred while the rapper was outside his cell for a scheduled daily break.
The latest accusations also follow separate reports detailing Diddy’s previous disciplinary problems behind bars.
On October 13, TMZ reported that Jose Rojas, a union secretary representing federal prison employees, had obtained disciplinary information concerning the music executive.
According to Rojas, Combs had been written up for fighting on July 31 and September 30, along with another major violation recorded on October 1. His reported record also included two separate cellphone-related infractions.
Those violations allegedly resulted in the loss of 41 days of good conduct credit and 400 days of commissary privileges.
Meanwhile, Combs’ projected prison release date recently shifted from January 21, 2028, to March 2, 2028.
The former hip-hop executive is serving a 50-month federal sentence after being convicted in 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of the more serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges.
While the latest allegations suggest his hospitalization could have been connected to tensions inside the prison, the competing accounts leave one major question unanswered.
