A 74-year-old grandmother became emotional while testifying before the Louisiana Senate about an alleged encounter with NFL running back Derrius Guice. Guice denies the allegations.
According to the Daily Mail, Gloria told lawmakers on Friday that the incident took place in 2017, when she worked as a security guard at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Guice was 20 and played for Louisiana State University at the time. Gloria said he approached her with a group of friends and made vulgar, sexually explicit comments toward her, and that his friends laughed. She said she told him to show respect and reminded him she was a grandmother. The encounter, she said, lasted about four minutes.
“I’m not just here for myself,” she said through tears. She added that she believes LSU has hidden serious problems and that the experience left her scarred.
Gloria also told senators she reported the incident and later received a call from LSU football coach Ed Orgeron, who offered to put Guice on the phone to apologize. She said she declined and asked that Guice be kept out of the upcoming bowl game as discipline, which did not happen. Orgeron denies ever speaking with her, the Daily Mail reported.
The hearing was a follow up to an independent report by the firm Husch Blackwell, which found LSU had for years mishandled student complaints involving sexual misconduct and domestic violence, in some cases ignoring them entirely. The report said school officials never looked into an accusation made against Guice while he was at LSU and that he was not disciplined.
Guice was released by the Washington Football Team in August 2020 after he was arrested on domestic violence charges. He denies all allegations against him, including the claims of misconduct at LSU.
