Rod Wave says he is not letting his years-old dispute with Boosie go, and this time he is making it clear why the threat of a lawsuit still bothers him.

After Boosie responded to Rod’s recent comments about their sampling controversy, Rod jumped on Instagram and pushed back hard. “I ain’t letting s**t go. You broke my heart threatening a n***a with a lawsuit,” he said.The latest chapter in the Rod Wave feud comes after Rod revisited the situation during his August 26 appearance on “Club Shay Shay” with Shannon Sharpe. During the conversation, Rod explained that Boosie was someone he admired growing up and said his use of Boosie’s music was meant as respect rather than an attempt to take advantage of him. The official episode description also notes that Rod discussed his past misunderstanding with Boosie and his thoughts on mentorship from older artists.
Rod told Sharpe that the situation changed some of the admiration he once had for artists from the generation before him. He said he had the famous Boosie fade as a kid and described himself as someone who was simply “showing love.” Rod went on to say the experience made him “anti-old n***a,” adding, “They be in the way all the time…They tryna run the game on you and if they can’t get over on you, they mad about that.”
Boosie clearly did not appreciate the way Rod characterized their history. In a lengthy post on X Thursday, Boosie opened with, “RODWAVE STOP PLAYING VICTIM.” He accused Rod of repeatedly using his work before the “Long Journey” dispute and argued that truly showing respect would have meant reaching out to collaborate with him or compensating him after learning Boosie still had a financial interest in the music. Boosie ended the message with, “STOP PLAYING VICTIM N LETS IT GO .I LET IT GO U SHOULD DO THE SAME .”
Rod’s response suggested that moving on is not happening anytime soon. He claimed the business side of the record had already been addressed through people connected to Boosie’s label and said he understood that Boosie did not fully control the song.
“I already had a relationship with your label. I knew from the jump you didn’t own the music, so when I reached out and I offered you $100,000, you said that wasn’t enough. You got me f**ked up,” Rod said in his Instagram response.
That claim adds another wrinkle to the Rod Wave feud because the disagreement over money was part of the public argument from the beginning. Boosie said in November 2023 that he did not own the original “Long Journey” outright but maintained that he held a percentage of the song along with publishing and writer credits. At the time, Boosie questioned how Rod’s version could have been cleared without resolving his interests and said he intended to take the matter to court.
The original controversy erupted in November 2023 after Boosie called attention to Rod’s “Long Journey,” which appeared on Rod’s chart-topping album “Nostalgia.” Boosie accused Rod of using material from his own 2010 song “Long Journey,” featuring Webbie, without properly compensating him. Rod initially tried to cool things down publicly, saying, “Man, you ain’t gotta sue no n***a like me, man. I’ma pull up and make sure you straight.”
Boosie maintained that the issue was business rather than personal. He said he appreciated artists using his music but wanted his proper compensation. Boosie also argued at the time that artists should not assume he would avoid legal action simply because of his reputation.
The negotiations apparently never produced an agreement both men accepted. In a December 2023 interview with VladTV, Boosie said he wanted $200,000 plus 25 percent of the song’s future earnings to settle the matter. That account differs from Rod’s new statement that he personally offered Boosie $100,000 and was turned down. Because the artists have publicly described the negotiations differently, the exact offers and discussions between their teams remain disputed.
That history is also why the current Rod Wave feud carries more weight than a random social media argument. For Rod, his latest comments frame the dispute as something personal that changed his perception of a rapper he once admired. For Boosie, the issue has consistently been presented as one of ownership, publishing, credit, and compensation.
More than two years after “Long Journey” first put them at odds, neither side appears to have changed his position. Boosie insists Rod should stop presenting himself as the wronged party, while Rod says being threatened with legal action by someone he grew up respecting is exactly why he has no intention of simply letting the situation go.
