A California woman says it is never too late to collect what you are owed.
According to NBC San Diego and Fox News, Toni, a San Diego area woman in her 70s, was awarded about $150,000 in unpaid child support from her former husband, Don, roughly 50 years after their divorce.
Reports say a court originally ordered monthly support payments that ran until their daughter turned 18 in 1971. Toni says the payments stopped and that she raised her daughter on her own while working long hours. After she retired, she went looking for her ex and filed in court to collect what was owed.
The amount grew because unpaid child support in California carries a 10 percent interest rate. As a result, a debt of roughly $30,000 became five times that amount, according to the reports.
Don was served with the case, and the reports say he agreed to pay. He was quoted as saying he was happy to give her the money and wished her the best.
