South Carolina Fifth Grader Dies From Injuries After A Classroom Fight

A fifth grader from Walterboro, South Carolina has passed away after a classroom fight.

On Monday, Raniya Wright, 10, got into an altercation with another fifth-grader at Forest Hills Elementary School. According to 13 News Now, teachers responded as quickly as possible to end the fight and then called the EMT.

According to the incident report, Wright collapsed after the altercation and was rushed to the nurse’s station at the school where she was breathing but unconscious.

Shortly after, the fifth-grader was sent to a local hospital for treatment but then airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina hours later.

Early Wednesday morning, Raniya passed away at the hospital in Charleston. The cause of death cannot be determined until an autopsy, which is expected to occur on Friday.

According to the school district, the student was suspended as police investigate the incident.

The investigation will continue once Colleton County’s Sheriff’s Office receives results of the autopsy.
