With so many reboots these days, it’s hard to keep up the excitement. However, ABC is doing things a little bit different, and re-creating iconic tv classics live on stage. Jamie Foxx and Wanda Sykes have signed on to play characters George and Louise “Weezy” Jefferson in the upcoming ABC special live event presentation of ‘The Jeffersons.’
According to Deadline, Foxx and Sykes will be joined by Will Ferrell as George and Louise’s friend Tom Willis and Justina Machado as the Jeffersons’ housekeeper, Florence Johnston. The roles of Helen Willis, Lionel Jefferson, Jenny Willis, and Mother Jefferson have yet to be cast.
‘The Jeffersons’ was created as a spin-off of the controversial ‘All In The Family,’ starring Carroll O’Connor as Archie Bunker and, and according to reports, the series, which ran from 1971-1979 is getting a one-night reboot too! Woody Harrelson has been cast to play Archie Bunker, and Marisa Tomei will play his wife, Edith, in the re-creation.
ABC has teamed up with Jimmy Kimmel and legendary producer Norman Lear for the live, 90-minute, star-studded tribute to the classic sitcoms. The event will portray an original episode from both of the Emmy-winning comedies, as Lear and Kimmel host the night.
‘Live In Front Of A Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s ‘All In The Family’ and ‘The Jeffersons’ will air Wednesday, May 22, 8-9:30 p.m. ET.
