A musical based on one of the best-selling girl groups of all time is in the works, thanks to the group’s longtime manager, Mathew Knowles.
Just days after Beyoncé released her Netflix documentary, “Homecoming,” which chronicled the blood, sweat, and tears it took to produce the legendary ‘Beychella’ performance, her father, Mathew has announced a new project chronicling her early days in Destiny’s Child.
According to Mathew Knowles’ website, “Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical,” which is being described as a bio-musical, will “bare an honest depiction of the achievements, obstacles, and evolution of the world’s most iconic girl group and the mastermind behind them.”
For the first time ever, according to the publication, “audiences will be treated to an honest, behind-the-scenes look at how the greatest girl group of all time was created,” told through Knowles’ own perspective.
“I want to pull back the curtains,” Knowles said “I feel it’s time to give the world the opportunity to hear, see and feel the victories and failures that I’ve had as a husband, father, and manager who risked everything in pursuit of fulfilling dreams- those of mine and others.”
In an attempt to highlight the message that “building a dream takes sacrifice, even at the cost of everything and everyone you love,” Knowles plans to premiere the project, which is in collaboration with writer, producer, director, Je’Caryous Johnson, in Houston next year, with additional plans for Broadway and London in the future.
“I am ecstatic to be working with Mr. Knowles on the development of ‘Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical,’” Johnson said. “It is a unique and inspiring story that will fearlessly tackle hard truths, while bringing both vindication and healing to all who lived it. It’s fair, it’s real and it’s an absolute honor to know that Mr. Knowles trust me to pen and produce such an iconic piece of American history.”
