A Texas bartender has been charged with criminal negligence in connection to a 2017 incident, where a man shot and killed his estranged wife and seven others after leaving the bar.

According to NBC, Lindsey Glass served the shooter, Spencer Hight, at The Local Public House in Plano Texas, and allegedly gave him alcohol although he appeared to be intoxicated and had been seen waving weapons at the bar. Hight left The Local Public House that night and forced his way into the home of his former wife, murdering eight people during a football watch party. Hight died in a police shootout at the scene.

Autopsy reports revealed Hight’s blood-alcohol level was four times more than the legal limit and investigators said that Glass should’ve known not to serve Hight. As a result, Glass was arrested for violating the state’s alcohol code and faces up to a year in prison or a $500 fine.

The code holds bartenders responsible for selling, “an alcoholic beverage to a habitual drunkard or an intoxicated or insane person,” but Glass’ attorney said that Hight was her friend, so she was concerned and tried to prevent him from drinking.

“Not only did she know Spencer, but she was friends with Meredith and was supposed to be at the party that evening,” he said in a statement.

“It is shameful of the Plano Police department to go after the person who was vital in trying to stop the horrific events of that evening.”

In 2018, The Local Public House lost its alcohol license for failure to report Hight’s behavior to Texas authorities the night of the incident.
