An infant cut from the womb of a murdered Chicago teen has died, after being on life support since April.
Yovanny Jadiel Lopez succumbed to a severe brain injury on Friday morning at Christ Hospital, according to a statement from family spokeswoman Julie Contreras.
“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of baby Yovanny Jadiel Lopez,” the statement reads. “He passed away this Friday, June 14, 2019 from his severe brain injury.”
The baby boy spent 53 days in intensive care, after being butchered from his 19-year-old mother, Marlen Ochoa-Lopez.
Ochoa-Lopez was nine months pregnant when she was lured to a woman’s home for free baby clothes and strangled to death, WGN reports. According to prosecutors, on the same day Ochoa-Lopez disappeared, Clarisa Figueroa called 911 to report that the baby she had just given birth to wasn’t breathing. That baby was Yovanny Jadiel Lopez.
Three people have reportedly been arrested in connection to the pregnant teen’s death. On Wednesday, Clarissa Figueroa and her daughter Desiree Figueroa were charged with first-degree murder. Figueroa’s boyfriend Piotr Bobak was also charged with covering up the death.
Apparently, the infant’s brain injury was due to deprivation of oxygen, a result of his mother being strangled to death and Yovanny’s father, Yovani Lopez wants the three held responsible.
The Cook County State’s Attorney Office and police will continue the investigation to determine if any additional charges will be filed in this case.
