An Alabama woman identified only as Jessica says a court has granted visitation with her sons to the man she alleges raped her when she was a child. According to Fox News, she says her uncle began abusing her around age 12 or 13 and that she became pregnant by him four times during her teen years. He has not been convicted of rape, and the allegations have not been proven in court.
Fox News reported that Jessica miscarried at 14, gave birth to a son at 16, gave birth to a third child at 18 who later died, and gave birth to another son after a fourth pregnancy at 19. She says she felt she had no options when the abuse began.
Jessica says a judge ordered that she be jailed for 48 hours each time she refuses to allow him parenting time with her sons. We could not independently confirm the court order, and a response from the man was not included in the reports we reviewed.
Her story drew national attention after Alabama passed a new abortion law, signed in May by Governor Kay Ivey. Critics of the law say the case shows the state is failing to protect survivors of sexual assault. The law has no exception for rape or incest and was set to be enforced starting in November unless a court blocked it.
