Texas rapper #TayK was sentenced to 55 years in prison and fined $21,000 on Tuesday on a murder charge for a 2016 robbery that ended with one man dead, according to the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.

Tay-K, whose legal name is Taymor McIntyre, was sentenced to 30 years in prison on one count of aggravated robbery and 13 years for each of the remaining two counts of aggravated robbery. The sentences will run concurrently, a court clerk said. Last week the 19-year-old was found guilty of murder in the death of a 21-year-old father in the incident. CNN reports that Tay-K was one of the seven defendants; the others involved were found guilty or accepted plea deals.

A witness testimony detailed how Tay-K was a part of a ploy to steal drugs and money from the victim’s home in Mansfield, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, KTVT reported. The father was identified as #EthanWalker, who ended up not having the drugs or money the robbers were looking for. The witness testified that Walker was shot while his hands were in the air.

Tay-K’s legal team maintains that the shooter was not their client and that he should not have been found guilty.  However, prosecutors argued that the rapper knew the plan was to take advantage of Walker. Tay-K’s rise to fame came after he cut off his ankle bracelet and escaped house arrest back in 2017. Later he released a song called “The Race,” which garnered more than 17 million views on YouTube. The teen was caught in New Jersey three months after fleeing.
