Kimesha, the sister of NBA star Kawhi Leonard, is being held without bail in connection with the death of an 84 year old woman at a Southern California casino, according to The Press Enterprise.
The outlet reports that Kimesha, 35, was charged in connection with an alleged attack on Aug. 31 at the Pechanga Resort Casino. Authorities allege that she and another woman followed 84 year old Afaf into a bathroom, where Afaf was injured and her purse was taken. The purse reportedly held between $800 and $1,200. Kimesha was arrested on Sept. 3, and Afaf died on Sept. 4.
A relative, Kimesha’s aunt, reportedly confirmed to The Press Enterprise that Kimesha and Kawhi are siblings. She was quoted as saying, “He didn’t have anything to do with this.”
According to court documents, a Riverside County sheriff’s investigator cited the family’s financial status when asking a judge to deny bail. Kawhi, who signed a reported $103 million contract with the Clippers this summer, was not mentioned in the investigator’s filing and has not been accused of any crime.
Kimesha is being held at the Indio jail, the outlet reported. The charges are allegations, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. We will update if more is reported.
