Federal prosecutors announced new charges in the investigation into the death of rapper Mac Miller.
According to CBS News, a federal grand jury indictment announced Wednesday accuses three men of conspiring to distribute cocaine and oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl. Prosecutors allege those drugs led to Miller’s death in September 2018. The men named in the indictment are Cameron, Stephen and Ryan. All three had previously been charged with drug related offenses, and the new indictment adds the allegation that the drugs caused Miller’s death.
The three remained in custody, and according to the report none of them had entered a plea. Attorneys for Cameron and Stephen declined to comment when asked by The Associated Press. It was unclear whether Ryan had a lawyer.
Prosecutors allege that Stephen supplied the fentanyl and cocaine that Cameron sold to Miller, and that Ryan acted as a middleman. The indictment alleges that on September 5, 2018, Miller and Cameron communicated by text, leading to a sale of cocaine, Xanax and ten blue pills that were believed to be oxycodone but allegedly contained fentanyl. The indictment also alleges the men continued selling drugs through August 2019.
If convicted of the charges tied to Miller’s death, the men face a mandatory minimum of 20 years in federal prison and a possible life sentence. Cameron and Stephen, who were also charged with being felons in possession of ammunition, were scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges on October 10. Ryan was arrested the week before in Arizona and had no arraignment date yet. These are allegations, and the men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Miller died two days after the alleged sale, at age 26, from an accidental overdose of fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol. Baller Alert continues to send love to his family and friends.
