Demi Lovato shared her regret saying she was “sorry” and “extremely frustrated” after receiving backlash following her recent publicized visit to Israel.
The 27-year-old singer, apologized to anyone who was offended by her recent trip.
Lovato posted a statement on her Instagram story Wednesday, in an attempt to address the growing backlash she received from followers. Lovato seemed to be responding to negative comments from fans who believed her visit to Israel signified her support or political stance in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
She noted in issuing the apology that she was “going against all advice” in favor of being authentic to herself.
In a statement to E! News, Lovato said she was extremely frustrated and “accepted a free trip Israel in exchange for a few posts.”
The pop star claimed,” No one told me there would be anything wrong with going or that I could possibly be offending anyone. With that being said, I’m sorry if I’ve hurt or offended anyone, that was not my intention.”
Lovato, who revealed she was “raised Christian with Jewish ancestors,” explained that she did not see the trip as anything that could be taken politically.
“This was meant to be a spiritual experience for me, NOT A POLITICAL STATEMENT, and now I realize it hurt people, and for that, I’m sorry. Sorry I’m not more educated and sorry for thinking this trip was just a spiritual experience.”
Earlier this week, Demi took to Instagram to reflect on her recent trip, revealing that she was baptized in the Jordan River, “the same place Jesus was baptized.”
As of right now, the apology has been deleted and is no longer visible on her social media platforms. Reps for Lovato have not responded to requests for comment.
