Nine people, three males and six females, were shot to death while they worship in Charleston, SC.
Earlier we posted about Pastor and Senator Clementa Pinckney. He along with Rev. Depayne Middleton-Doctor and Susie Jackson were among the deceased. Cynthia Hurd, an employee of the Charleston County Public Library, as well as High School track coach, reverend and mother of 3, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton are also among those named.
Myra Thompson was the wife of reverend Anthony Thompson, who is a Vicar at Holy Trinity REC, Ethel Lee Lance worked at the church over 30 years. Daniel L Simmons, another staff member also passed.
Another victim, Allen University graduate TyWanza Sanders, was remembered by the school’s president, Lady June Cole.
“He was a quiet, well-known student who was committed to his education,” Cole said. “He presented a warm and helpful spirit as he interacted with his colleagues. Mr. Sanders was participating in the Bible Study session at Mother Emanuel church at the time of the shooting.”
“We have staff members who have worked with her before on various projects. She had 31 years of service at the library in Charleston,” Kurtis Rogers, communications director of the South Carolina State Library, said of Cynthia Hurd’s death. He also says that all CCPL branches have closed today.
Sharonda Coleman-Singleton’s son posted a very heartfelt Instagram message this morning.
