After news broke in 2019 that Akon was building his own city in Senegal, the rapper has officially signed the agreement.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Taking to Instagram to make the announcement, Akon wrote, “Just finalizes the agreement for AKON CITY in Senegal. Looking forward to hosting you there in the future.”
Back in November, Akon gave an update on the city, in an interview with ‘Nick Cannon Mornings’ radio show.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“We started construction in March, and stage two is going to be 2025. It’s in Senegal, West Africa,” he explained about his city, which will be built on 2,000 acres of land that was gifted by Senegalese President Macky Sall. “It’s all renewable [energy]. It’s a real physical place. It’s going to have a real airport.”
“Stage two is going to be 2025,” Akon continued at the time of his futuristic city.

At this time, there’s no official timeline showcasing the completion of the project, but it could take until the end of the decade, into 2030, Travel Noire reports.
