Lizzo, Lil Nas X And More Take Home  The Gold, Billie Eilish Makes History As Youngest Solo Performer To Win Album Of The Year

Lil Nas X, Lizzo, and Billie Eilish all took home the gold last night at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.

Music’s biggest night started off with tragic and shocking news that Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna passed away in a helicopter crash. The ceremony was dim, but Alicia Keys, who hosted the show, brought light into the room by delivering a singing tribute to the baller and daughter with the help of Boyz II Men.

Lizzo opened up the show with a stellar performance, singing her hits “Cuz I Love You” and “Truth Hurts.” She ended the performance by shouting out Bryant. The songstress took home three Grammy’s for Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Traditional R&B Performance. #LilNasX also delivered a floor-shaking performance with #BTS, #BillyRayCyrus, #MasonRamsey, Nas and #Diplo. The rapper took home the gold for Best Music Video and Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance for “Old Town Road.”  Other winners included Dave Chappelle, who won Best Comedy Album for his Netflix comedy “Sticks and Stones” and #Beyonce, who won Best Music Film for “Homecoming.” 21Savage and #JCole won Best Rap Song for “A Lot,” and #MichelleObama won Best Spoken Word Album for her award-winning memoir “Becoming.”

Later on in the evening, filmmaker Ava DuVernay took the stage to welcome Meek Mill, DJ Khaled, YG, Roddy Ricch, John Legend and Kirk Franklin for Nipsey Hussle’s tribute. Along with Hussle, a photo of Bryant rose above the artists as they performed. Hussle received a posthumous Grammy for his track “Racks in the Middle.” Hussle’s longtime girlfriend Lauren London, his sister #SamanthaSmith, and Hussle’s grandmother accepted the award on his behalf. “I wanted to thank all of you for showing all the love that I have felt for him all of his life and will always live in my heart. So thank you, thank you, thank you,” said his grandmother.

Sweeping the wins was singer-songwriter Billie Eilish who won five Grammys for Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Album. Eilish, 18, is now the youngest solo performer to ever win Album of the Year. That record was previously held by #TaylorSwift, who won Best Album when she was 20 for “Fearless.”
