Ohio State has dismissed cornerback #AmirRiep and safety #JahsenWint from the team after the two were arrested and charged with felony counts of rape and kidnapping in the first degree, according to CBS Sports.
On Tuesday, the two players were first suspended indefinitely following their arrests. Police booked the football players into Franklin County Jail early Wednesday morning after receiving a complaint that was filed for the incident that allegedly happened earlier this month. CBS Sports reports the two are scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday. In a statement, Ohio State coach, Ryan Day explained his decision to release the two men.
“I have dismissed Amir Riep and Jahsen Wint from our football program. I am not making any statement on the criminal charges, but it is clear they did not live up to our standards and my expectations. The athletics department will make sure they both continue to have access to the health and well-being resources available to students and student-athletes. Due to the ongoing criminal investigation, I will not be commenting further,” said Day.
The incident allegedly took place around 9:45 p.m. on Feb. 4, according to the affidavit of probable cause. The alleged victim told police that she and Riep started having consensual sex at Riep and Wint’s shared apartment. The woman said that at some point, she moved away and “did not want to continue.” The document states that’s when Wint came into the room, and Riep asked the woman if he could join before holding her “down by the neck.” She said he “then held her in place with his hands and body, with the purpose to engage in sexual activity with and against the will of said victim.”
The alleged victim also claims that Riep forcibly held her down by her hips while Wint forced her to perform oral sex. She went on to say that she was filmed and was told to give her name and say the sex was consensual. Riep and Wint were just about to begin their senior years and played in 13 games last season.
