MGM Resorts and Wynn Las Vegas hotels and casinos are shutting their doors in an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus.
The resorts announced Sunday that their Las Vegas casinos will close Monday, March 16, and their hotels will shut down starting Tuesday, March 17, until further notice.
MGM Resorts include the Bellagio, CityCenter, Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, The Mirage, New York-New York, Park MGM, and T-Mobile Arena.
MGM will not be taking reservations for arrivals before May 1.
Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts Jim Murren said, “Despite our commitment to dedicating additional resources for cleaning and promoting good health…it is now apparent that this is a public health crisis that requires major collective action if we are to slow its progression.”
Wynn Resorts said in a tweet: “In order to keep our employees and guests safe, we have decided to close Wynn Las Vegas and Encore on Tuesday, March 17, at 6 pm. We anticipate that we will be closed for two weeks, after which we will evaluate the situation.”
Current guests at the hotels are told to check out by noon on Tuesday and “make transportation arrangements to depart the resort soon thereafter.”
Over 3,000 people in the U.S. have been infected with coronavirus, and there have been 69 deaths.
