Wendy’s fired off a number of tweets after reports surfaced on Twitter, claiming that the company as a whole is supporting Donald Trump’s reelection campaign. The company has long chosen to remain apolitical.
“We never have and will never contribute to a presidential campaign. For the record, our CEO has always kept that same energy too. Facts,” The company’s official Twitter page confirmed. This comes after #WendyIsOverParty trended on social media earlier this week when it was originally reported by Business Insider that the company supports Trump. In all actuality, it is James Bondenstedt, the CEO of Muy!, a company that owns several Wendy’s locations, that supports Trump, donating over $400,000 to his reelection.
Wendy’s added that they support the Black Lives Matter movement and backed by its CEO Todd A. Penegor, has pledged $500,000 for social justice reform.
“Our voice would be nothing without Black culture. Right now, a lot of people are hurting because of blatant racism against Black people. Their voices need to be heard. Period. #BlackLivesMatter” Wendy’s tweeted Wednesday evening. “We’re about putting our money where our mouth is. So here’s our money, and here’s our mouth. We are committed to donating $500k to support social justice, the youth, and education in the Black community, starting with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and we’ll have receipts.”
