Bodycam footage of San Mateo police officers fatally shooting a white woman in Half Moon Bay last month has been released. The woman spoke of a “race war.”

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office released footage of a fatal shooting on Monday. The officers involved in the incident were identified as John Baba and David Dominguez. The woman was identifier as 56-year-old #SandraLeeHarmon of Eureka. The shooting happened in the 800 blocks of Main Street at around  7:25 p.m. on May 5, The Mercury News reports. “This officer-involved shooting began with a 911 call regarding a woman walking downtown carrying a bottle of wine in one hand and a rifle in the other. We later learned that rifle was a shotgun,” said Sheriff Carlos Bolanos in a recorded statement.

Police were responding to a report of a woman carrying a wine bottle and a rifle walking downtown. A 911 caller told police that the woman spoke of a “race war” that was about to happen. In order to get more information, officers began visiting the homes of surrounding residents for witnesses. Dominguez ended up knocking on the door of Harmon, whose motor home was parked behind a restaurant at 845 Main St. The officer and Harmon exchanged words briefly, and Harmon stepped out of her motor home and pointed a gun at Dominguez. Dominguez took cover, and Harmon then fired in his direction. That’s when Dominguez fired back at the woman. Dominguez wasn’t able to turn his body camera on at that point, but the second part of the altercation was recorded by Baba’s.

In the video, which lasted 12 minutes, Baba arrives to the scene and see the gun on the ground, as Harmon is walking away from it with her hands in the air. The deputies order the woman to get on the ground, but that’s when Harmon turns around and appears to try to pick the gun back up. Both officers then open fire, and Harmon falls to the ground. The woman ended up dying on her way to the hospital. The deputies were not injured.

According to Mercury News, Dominguez started at the sheriff’s office in August 2016 as a correctional officer and later was promoted to deputy in September 2018. Baba has been with the sheriff’s office for two years. “Our goal in releasing these videos, while still early in the investigation, is to provide our community with as much information as possible when we have a tragic incident such as this,” Bolanos said in response to the released footage.
