A video from a Detroit Kroger had people talking in June 2020. A Black mom said a white woman blocked her car in the parking lot after a dispute over her kids in the store. Online, the woman was nicknamed “Kroger Karen.” She has not been publicly identified, and Baller Alert could not find a response from her.
According to Fox 2 Detroit, Shaneeka was shopping with her three kids when her son stepped on a shelf to reach a bottle of Gatorade. Shaneeka told the station the woman complained loudly about it, and that she asked the woman not to yell at the children. She explained that with few workers in the aisle, a short shopper sometimes has to reach for what they need.
Shaneeka said the situation did not end inside the store. She says the woman followed her and the kids out to the parking lot and stood behind her car so the family could not leave. Shaneeka started recording and streamed the moment on Facebook Live. She says she politely asked the woman to move and was told no.
Police arrived while the video was rolling. In the footage, the woman is seen walking up to the officers. The officers took information from both women and eventually asked the woman to step aside so the car could leave. No charges were mentioned in the reports available at the time.
Shaneeka told Fox 2 that she had received a lot of responses to the video and that many people were upset about it. She said she could not understand why moments like this are still happening after everything people are working to change.
Baller Alert will keep you posted if more information comes out.
