Aaron Hernandez was sentenced to life in prison last week but that’s not the end of his legal troubles. Remember, he’s still facing multiple charges, including two murder charges, stemming from a 2012 drive-by shooting in which he was the prime suspect.
Hernandez is accused of killing Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado after feeling they had been testing him and disrespecting him at a Boston nightclub. The last straw was when Abreu spilled a drink on him. Hernandez felt it was deliberate and after the club drove around until he saw Abreu and friends going to their car. He allegedly pulled up to the car at a red light, yelled “Yo whats up now n*gga” and fired 5 shots into the car, killing the two men and injuring a third. “I think I got one in the head and one in the chest,” Hernandez said to a friend as they raced from the intersection where the victims were shot as they sat in their car, prosecutors said at the former tight end’s arraignment.
“He needs to be brought to justice,”  says Susan Vincente, Safiro Furtado’s cousin, “My cousin never had an enemy. He was calm and loving.” Susan says Furtado’s mother has been taking it extremely hard also. It’s still an open wound. It’s been tough for her since day 1.”Â
The double murder trial is scheduled to begin later this year. It will be interesting to see how, if at all, his current murder conviction will play into this trial.
