After releasing “Hip-Hop”  earlier this month; on the heels of his late brother’s birthday and just in time for mine, August Alsina commemorates the one year anniversary of his debut album Testimony with the Remix of  “Right There” . The Youngin’ enlists Dream Chaser, Meek Mill , to spit a few bars and sow a few seeds of knowledge about the bleak life of the streets.

The soul filled ballad speaks to the heartache of  struggling  reminding fans that he gets the pain they may  endure because he too has been there. Enveloped in the truth of his vocals, the BigEasy native sings : “I’m just like you ( I know the feeling, yo)/ Cause I’ve been there too ( I hope you feel me, Cause)/ I’ve been through the pain (There ain’t a difference) / You and I are the same/  Homie , I was right there…I remember nights that (when) I had to go to sleep (in the back of the Quick and Easy)” . The textured beat produced by industry gems, Knucklehead and Cassius Jay, offer vulnerability for Meek to drop food for thought. “My people dying to fight/ Fighting to die and they wander through life/And it sounds like an animal crying at night/ I’ve been here before but I’m tryna live right/ Cause them streets will take your friends, your family, your freedom/ So make your exit plan and get up out em’  cause you don’t need em/ Homie I was right there” .

The transparency of this song is why fans abroad have grown to love Alsina. His commitment to be real is something tangible fans hold and value.
