A day long manhunt in Brooklyn came to an end on Wednesday night when a resident found a 19 year old who had escaped federal custody hiding in his home, according to CBS New York.
Johnny was reportedly being taken to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park when he fled custody. Neighbors were alerted to be on the lookout, and officers had already searched the area earlier in the day.
Terry, 62, told CBS New York what happened next. “I grabbed my flashlight, moved the sheet, and there’s a face looking back at me,” he said, adding that the man had been sitting behind his chair for about three hours. Terry then went outside and alerted the officers who were nearby. Police were waiting when Johnny came out of the basement.
It is believed he got into the home through a cracked back door after being chased off another neighbor’s porch. Stefanie, who lives nearby, told CBS New York she chased him away with a meat cleaver, and that he then hopped fences from yard to yard looking for a way out.
Johnny had been arrested in Queens on an illegal firearm possession charge. No attorney had come forward to comment on his behalf at the time of this report.
