Two suspects have been arrested in the case of a woman whose dismembered remains were found in a park in 2018.
According to People, Federal prosecutors in the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of New York allege that Cory Martin, 33, conspired with Adelle Anderson, 32, to kill and dismember Brandy Odom, 26, to collect on her life insurance policies. The pair had set up $200,000 worth of benefits in Odom’s name.
On Wednesday, FBI agents arrested Martin and Anderson on charges of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. If convicted, the charges carry a penalty of up to 22 years in prison.
According to an affidavit, Odom lived with the couple. The two plotted from March 2017 through August 2018 to collect on insurance policies they took out in her name.
The two texted back and forth about the policies in December 2017.
“Insurance place closed today,” Anderson allegedly wrote to Martin. “And that policy is no longer gone be active if j don’t try n do something with that bitch this week.”
In an interview with authorities on Oct. 29, Anderson allegedly said she saw Martin choke Odom to death and dismember her body.
After choking her to death and dismembering her body, Martin left her remains in Canarsie Park, discovered by a woman walking her dog.
“The murder of Brandy Odom and the subsequent dismemberment and disposal of her body reflects Martin’s utter disregard for human life,” AUSA Tanya Hajjar wrote in her letter. “The crime was premeditated, gruesome, and motivated by greed.”
Martin was remanded, and Anderson was released on a $200,000 bond.
