A California man took police on a high-speed chase before biting a police dog and barking at responding officers.
According to the Sacramento Bee, Jorge Bucioperez was spotted by a Corning police officer running a stop sign. Officers say the silver minivan driving by Bucioperez was going around ten mph with his high beams when he failed to stop.
Penn Live reports that when the officers tried to approach him, Bucioperez sped away, going 75 mph from Interstate 5 in Tehama County and ending when he crashed into the gate of a residential driveway.
“The suspect driver jumped out and ran through the backyard of the residence, leaving the vehicle still rolling. K-9 Blaze was deployed who jumped two fences before catching up to and apprehending the suspect,” the official police statement stated.
Apparently, the man thought he could take on the K-9 by biting the dog while resisting arrest. When officers approached both Blaze and Bucioperez, they successfully arrested him, although he barked at them while being taken into custody.
The report also says he tried to bite one of the officers.
It was later determined that he was under the influence of alcohol and driving on a suspended license due to a prior DUI.
Bucioperez was involved in another car chase with the same police department on Nov. 21, 2020.
