A California man is accused of leading police on a high speed chase before biting a police dog and barking at officers during his arrest.
According to the Sacramento Bee, a Corning police officer spotted a man named Jorge running a stop sign. Officers say the silver minivan was moving at roughly ten miles per hour with its high beams on and failed to stop.
Penn Live reports that when officers tried to approach, the driver sped away, reaching 75 miles per hour on Interstate 5 in Tehama County before crashing into a residential driveway gate.
In its statement, the police department said, “The suspect driver jumped out and ran through the backyard of the residence, leaving the vehicle still rolling.” A police dog named Blaze was deployed, jumped two fences and caught up to him.
Police say the man bit the dog while resisting arrest and barked at officers as he was taken into custody. The report also says he tried to bite one of the officers. Police said he was later found to be under the influence of alcohol and driving on a license suspended after a prior DUI. Officers said he was also involved in a separate chase with the same department on November 21, 2020.
These are police allegations, and no response from the man was included in the reports.
