As more disturbing details emerge about some of the Capitol insurrection participants, CNN reports that one man sent text messages to his friends that he wanted to shoot and run over House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Cleveland Grover Meredith Jr. allegedly sent a text message saying he was thinking of “putting a bullet in [Pelosi’s] noggin on Live TV” and another that said he was headed to Washington with “a s— ton of … armor-piercing ammo,” according to court documents obtained by CNN. On Wednesday, he sent texts about running Pelosi over.
Meredith arrived the day before the scheduled pro-Trump rally, armed with hundreds of ammunition rounds and an assault rifle. When the FBI searched his truck and trailer, they located three guns: a Glock 19, a 9mm pistol, and an assault rifle.
Meredith has been charged with writing the threats and possessing an unregistered firearm and ammunition. He is being detained at least until a court hearing next week.
Before joining the DC protest, Meredith protested outside the home of Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, a Republican who has drawn the ire of Donald Trump and his supporters over President-elect Joe Biden’s win in the state.
