As more details emerge about people who took part in the Capitol riot, CNN reports that a man now facing federal charges allegedly sent text messages saying he wanted to harm House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
According to court documents obtained by CNN, a Georgia man named Cleveland allegedly texted that he was thinking of shooting Pelosi on live television, and sent another message saying he was headed to Washington with a large amount of armor piercing ammunition. Prosecutors say that on Wednesday he also sent texts about running Pelosi over.
Court documents say Cleveland arrived in Washington the day before the pro Trump rally with hundreds of rounds of ammunition and an assault rifle. After the FBI searched his truck and trailer, authorities say they found three guns, including a Glock 19, a 9mm pistol and an assault rifle.
Cleveland is charged with making threats and with possessing an unregistered firearm and ammunition. Prosecutors have asked that he be held, and he is being detained at least until a court hearing next week. The charges are allegations that have not been proven in court.
Court records also indicate that before traveling to the Capitol, he took part in a protest outside the home of Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, a Republican who has drawn criticism from supporters of President Trump over the November election result in that state.
