12- year- old Sam Keusch understands how difficult the pandemic has been on senior citizens. Like Sam’s grandparents, many seniors are struggling to get the vaccine and have already suffered for months with not being able to be near their loved ones.
According to CBS News, the seventh-grader from Scarsdale, New York, created a way to help others who might not be tech-savvy book appointments online.
Keusch told CBS News he decided to help after seeing his dad helping his grandparents and other neighbors try to book vaccine appointments.
“I was already thinking of a Bar Mitzvah project, and I thought that it couldn’t be that hard. So I decided to help them out,” Sam said.
Keusch said he was originally going to donate his Bar Mitzvah but instead decided to create a website that could help his community. Last month using Google’s website template, Sam created “Vaccine Helper,” a site that helps New Yorkers figure out if they’re eligible and then where they can get a vaccine appointment.
Sam’s website had already helped more than 1,600 people book appointments, and the website is growing more and more each day just by word of mouth. “It might take a day or two, but usually we can book an appointment in a day,” he said.
