A missing South Carolina teenager was found dead Thursday in a wooded area in Lexington County.
Sanaa Amenhotep, 15, was reported missing on April 5 by her mother after leaving with a young man and two male acquaintances. Officials believe that at some point, the situation became a kidnapping, according to People. It’s thought that she died the same day. The coroner determined that the teen died from multiple gunshot wounds, and her death has officially been ruled a homicide.
On Thursday morning, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced that an unidentified juvenile male was arrested in connection to Amenhotep’s kidnapping. On Friday, Treveon Nelson, 18, was arrested and expected to be charged with murder and kidnapping. A third suspect, an unidentified juvenile female, was also arrested. It was not immediately made clear what charges the female was facing.Â
“I can’t tell you how tragic and sad this case is, to lose a 15-year-old like we lost this one,” Lott said. “Unfortunately, we didn’t bring her home the way we wish that we could.”
