Two suspects were arrested for the fatal shooting of two decorated Army colonels over a “dispute.”
According to the New York Post, D’Angelo Strand, 19, and Ronnie Keandre Marshall, 20, were charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. They are being held without bond at the Fairfax County jail.
The suspects are accused of killing Dr. Edward McDaniel Jr.,55, and his wife, Brenda McDaniel, 63, in their front yard on Wednesday. McDaniel Jr. was an active-duty colonel at Fort Belvoir, and his wife was a retired military nurse.
Authorities believe the murder was part of an incident that had taken place at the home earlier in the week between the suspects and the couple’s son. A 911 call was placed from the house reporting a potential burglary in progress and an altercation.
“Caller is advising the subject is after her son and that he is with them upstairs,” the dispatcher said, according to NBC-TV. The female caller alerted the dispatcher that she and her husband had a shotgun and the “subject” was in the basement.
Two days later, the couple was killed. Officials launched a manhunt for the suspects, who had fled the scene in a Nissan. Both suspects were taken into custody by Thursday evening.
