Silento Speaks Out After 30-Year Prison Sentence for Killing Cousin: “I Can’t Reverse Time”

Former viral sensation Silento has been denied bond in his murder case.

On Wednesday, the “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” artist had a bond hearing in DeKalb County, GA. During the hearing, the judge denied the rapper’s release citing his mental health issues and his refusal to take medicine prescribed to treat them. The judge also noted concerns about the rapper denying his mental state, including previously leaving a mental health treatment center early. Ultimately, it was decided that these factors made his release too risky. Additionally, prosecutors confirmed that even the rapper’s grandparents were opposed to him receiving a bond.

Silento’s legal team argued that his bipolar disorder and other psychiatric issues were the cause of his obstacles. They called the rapper a “local treasure” who urged kids to stay away from drugs while on the Governor’s Blue Ribbon panel.

Silento, whose real name is Ricky Lamar Hawk, requested to be released on a $25k bond, assuring the court that he would not attempt to flee.

The 23-year-old will remain behind bars, where he is facing murder charges for the shooting death of his cousin, 34-year-old Frederick Rooks, in January. Rooks was found dead in the street with multiple gunshots to his face and leg. Police found eight spent shell casings near his body.
