Britney Spears’ legal team has accused her father, Jamie Spears, of attempting to get nearly $2 million in payments before he finally steps down from his role overseeing her conservatorship.
Britney’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, is arguing that her father’s “true motivation” is to “extort” millions from his pop star daughter in the form of multiple payments.
According to Complex, the filing reveals that Jamie claims the payments were for things like attorneys’ fees and “media matters.”
Rosengart accuses Britney’s dad of attempting to “barter suspension and removal” in exchange for the payments.
“Regardless of the past, Mr. Spears and his counsel are now on notice: the status quo is no longer tolerable, and Britney Spears will not be extorted,” Rosengart’s filing stated.
