Apple is rolling out its digital driver’s license feature in eight states during a trial run of the long-awaited feature.

Arizona, Georgia, Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Utah are the inaugural states to allow digital driver’s licenses to be added to the Apple Wallet app for iPhone. These mobile IDs can be accepted at participating airports by tapping them at identity readers in airports. A note will then appear from TSA that users must approve using Face or Touch ID.

Participants can add their license by scanning it and then completing facial and head movements for an added layer of security. The ID is “encrypted and protected against tampering and theft.” Only the iPhone owner can view their digital license.

This move is Apple’s latest push to eliminate physical wallets. The technology leader’s Apple Wallet has increased in popularity in the last few years. Digital student IDs have already been enacted to allow campus attendees to access school buildings. Digital credit cards and Apple Pay are also widely used features that permit cardless purchases.

The feature will be available in the selected states beginning later this fall with the next iPhone software update. Arizona and Georgia will be the first states to receive the feature. The remaining states will follow shortly after.
