Ok so apparently Idris Elba, who I thought was engaged to his stylist/baby mama, has given the business to K. Michelle and the singer says, she’s still heartbroken over their split.
You may recall Idris direceted K Michelle’s Vh1 musical that premiered a few months ago. I guess their relationship wasn’t purely business. During a listening session for her upcoming “Anybody Wanna Buy A Heart?” album, K. Michelle previewed a song titled “Maybe I Should Call” which happens to be about her love affair with Idris Elba.
In the song, she sings “Long distance in the way of what could be, even when you’re here, you’re not with me, she’s having the child I should’ve carried, I’ll be damned if y’all get married, How’s the baby, How you adjusting?” She tells Necole Bitchie during the Q&A, ‘Maybe I Should Call,’ tells a true story about what I was going through the past 8 -9 months. That’s a favorite, just from the snippets [and] we recently shot a video for [it.] The whole album is about one particular person and I think that [although] people don’t want to be heartbroken, I really thank God for this heartbreak because I wouldn’t have had these songs. So, I just wonder who the next man is gonna be before the next album, because if I don’t find one to break my heart, we all in trouble. He is probably somewhere mad as sh-t. I sent all of these records to him first and he emailed me back and texted me back and said, ‘This is art! I’m so sad this is where we are.’” When asked if the song was about Idris K said, “I will always love him, and that’s all I am going to say.”
In she and Necole’s prior interview she talks about the last time she was in love (rumored to have been Idris),
“The last time I was in love was recently and it was very secretive and quiet. And he had a baby that was about to be born. And yeah, that was very- I think – I [even wanna] cry- that was very hurtful.
He told me about the baby that was about to be born. But he also told me that…you know, we always wanna listen to men and we always want to make excuses for them in order not to pay attention and basically, I was like a glorified side-chick. And sometimes you don’t even know you’re the side-chick until you look back and say, ‘Damn b-tch, I was the side-chick, gotdamn.’ But he had a baby and he just wasn’t for the baby’s mother. And you know, he wasn’t about her. And he spent a lot of time with me for eight months. A lot of time with me, here in America, a lot of time was spent.
Men, they say so much but not enough and I just assumed, how could [he still be with her??] You know, you are never with this woman. Like, you know, how you see things and basically waiting on the baby to be born, only for you still to be there and now the new excuse is- ‘I can’t leave my baby.’ It goes on to another excuse.
I did that for eight months. It’s hard when you date people in the industry and you have to look up and see them every day, you know what I’m saying?
So for me, I think my whole album is about this situation. And I think it really took me up out of here. It really did. Because I really felt-like felt, felt, felt, felt [and] knew this was my soul mate. This was the person that understood everything about me.”
I haven’t heard anything about Idris and his fiancee breaking up so I’ll just sip tea with this one.
