Prosecutors announced Tuesday that the father of the child who fatally shot his mother while on a Zoom call has been charged.

According to the Seminole-Brevard State Attorney’s Office, Veondre Avery, 22, faces charges of manslaughter and failure to safely store a handgun after his 2-year-old son discovered his rifle and shot Shamaya Lynn, 21, in the head on Aug. 11.

Prosecutors said the child discovered Avery’s gun inside a “Paw Patrol” backpack that was lying on the couple’s bedroom floor.

After the shooting, one of Lynn’s co-workers called 911 after witnessing the whole thing on the Zoom call.

According to reports, Avery had just got home when he discovered Lynn’s body and immediately called 911.

“I literally just got home. And I come into the room and my girlfriend, she was working on the computer, she’s just laid back. There’s blood everywhere!” he said. “Come on! Come on! Come on! Come on now, hurry, please hurry! Please! I don’t know what happened, I just went in the house. I just came through the door!” the boyfriend continued.

Veondre Avery is facing charges of manslaughter and failure to securely store a firearm.
