Kim Kardashian Denies Blackfishing But Understands Braids Outrage

Beauty mogul Kim Kardashian is responding to critics who have long accused her of Blackfishing.

In an interview with i-D, the 41-year-old slammed these claims, maintaining that she would never purposefully try to offend anyone. However, she is aware of the outrage she’s sparked over certain hairstyles throughout the years.

“I have in the past got backlash from putting my hair in braids, and I understand that” the Skims founder stated.

The mother of four says that she rocks particular looks because her older daughter, 8-year-old North West, likes to have matching hair with her mom. Kim K says despite telling her little girl that many styles would “be better on you and not on me,” she says she doesn’t want to disappoint North.

“But I also want her to feel that I can do a hairstyle with her and not make it that big of a deal either if that’s something that she’s really asking for and really wants,” the KUWTK star explained.

Kanye West’s soon-to-be ex-wife says that she has become educated on effective ways to communicate these types of issues to her children. Still, she did point out that many people forget she is Armenian, and people in Armenia also have a long history of wearing braids.

In addition to wearing plaits, the reality staple has been accused of darkening her skin and enhancing her features to appear more African-American since coming onto the scene in the early 2000s.
