A former Georgia school administrator has been indicted for purposefully poisoning his ill wife with cocaine.
Edward Judie Jr. of Macon has been charged with felony murder in the death of his wife, Joyce Fox Judie. The 60-year-old woman, who was suffering from dementia, was found dead in the couple’s home in November 2019. Edward initially told police that they were drinking Hennessey while lying in bed. He said he would occasionally nudge his wife to check on her, but when she stopped responding, he assumed she was asleep. However, an autopsy found that the woman had “many times the lethal dose” of cocaine in her body when she died. Police determined that he purchased the drugs that night and changed his story any time he was presented with new evidence about his possible involvement in Joyce’s death.
In July, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said that they were certain Edward had poisoned his wife, and the motive was likely for money. He was arrested, and prosecutors say that while in jail, Edward tried to conceal $500,000 from his wife’s life insurance payout and tried to get someone to secure his passport. He was later released in September on a $220,000 bond.
Last week, prosecutors announced that they were moving forward with murder charges and felony drug charges against Edward and his accomplice, Aliyah Danielle Walker, though it is unclear what her exact role in the murder was.
Edward acted as Bibb County’s deputy superintendent of student affairs from 2011 to 2015.
