On Tuesday, the Motion Picture Academy unveiled its Oscar shortlist on 10 categories for the upcoming 94th Academy Awards ceremony.
The power couple, Jay Z and Beyonce, were among the list of star performers on the 15- song shortlist. “Guns Go Bang” from the hit Netflix Western movie “They Harder They Fall,” and “Be Alive” from “King Richard “are the two songs that’ll be going head-to-head the ceremony.
Artist Kid Cudi makes it to the shortlist, collaborating with Ariana Grande on “Just Look Up” from the movie “Don’t Look Up.” Cudi also collaborated with Jay Z on “Guns Go Bang,” and could possibly take home two Oscars.
“We were making sure that the story we were discussing and telling in our heads manifested itself on-screen,” Jay-Z explained in an interview with Yahoo.
Also on the list are powerhouses Jennifer Hudson and H.E.R., the former with “Here I Am” from the Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect and the latter with “Automatic,” from Halle Berry’s bruised soundtrack.
SZA’s version of “The Anonymous Ones,” from Dear Evan Hanson, also made it on the Oscar shortlist.
A total of 84 songs were eligible in the category this year. Congratulations to all the nominees.
